When I was painting this piece, our littlest Sharkey said "I like Sharks, I like rainbows". He loves painting as much as I do and as soon as he sees me start opening up my paints, he wants to be painting along side of me. It's something special that I really adore that we share.
This particular piece had a bit of a tortured existence as it came into fruition. I thought I would try and work with neutrals and while the composition of the nuetrals was fabulous, the painting in that form really just didn't bring me joy.
So I started changing it up and decided I was going to have a shot at abstract florals... which really didn't work out well LOL so I thought "No, this painting has to make me happy, it has to colourful and vibrant and it needs to be me" so I did what I did and as soon as I started painting intrinsic to the things that I love, it instantly became joyous.
This painting has certainly been on a few exciting and unplanned journeys but gosh I really love the final destination we finally arrived at! Because it has changed direction so many times it has lots of really strong marks and scratches (I love scratches) that you notice when standing back and looking at the piece which then draw you in to examine them from a closer distance.
It has lots of pastel purples, pinks and beautiful drips and to honour it's past, I've left a flower and part of the Navy Vase at the bottom of the painting. I think they look fab in the final result.
