The Incredibly Gorgeous Wedding of Carly and Stephen at Kingsbrook Estate

Carly and Stephen have a relationship that began as 13 year old high school students that eventuated into a romantic one at the age of 17.  Built on solid foundations of vegemite sandwiches in the face and the odd school bag “theft” (side glances at Stephen ahem) these guys have grown up with each other with a love and respectful relationship that is hard to deny.

I met Carly and Stephen for the first time just a few days prior to their wedding day, yet it felt like I had known Carly for at least one or two years. We would email each other about their wedding details and I’m really not sure who was more excited about the approaching day, Carly or I LOL.  Carly worked with Claire, a sister in law of one of my past clients (waves to Jo and Hayden and Miss Claire) and shared with Carly, Jo and Hayden’s online wedding gallery and this is where our relationship began.

One of the beautiful things that I remember about Carly is that she would send me beautiful emails. The kind that make your heart warm, the kind that would bring a lovely big smile to your face. Carly shared with me details (including an image or two) of Stephen’s romantic proposal with his great grandmothers ring on the Island of Santorini in Greece, their love for their family and friends (including their fur baby), how they were very young at heart along with all of the wonderful plans they had in store for their wedding celebrations at Kingsbrook Estate.  Then there was our connection with CAKE! Yes people, cake! For those of you who do know me, this is my number one “must have to eat” food of choice!  For those of you who don’t know me, I will crawl over hot coals for cake….GOOD CAKE! LOL  Stephen and Carly are the Owners of How Sweet It Is  a gorgeous all occasions cake store located on Pultney Street in Adelaide and their cake is GOOD CAKE!

All this cake business aside, Carly and Stephen are an absolutely wonderful couple. They are incredibly genuine and giving and make it really hard for you not to love them and I really was delighted that they were going to be clients of mine.

The particular Saturday that Carly and Stephen were married, the forecast was for HOT HOT HOT and a bit more HOT! I believe the predicted forecast was 37degrees, however official reports have it set at 40.3 degrees and it was enough melt the shoes right off your feet.  I can honestly say that I have never in my life been so hot and bothered (could have something to do with the belly dweller I’m carrying around at the moment) but throughout the day, I would look at Carly and I swear she didn’t break out in a sweat, not once. I have no idea how she did it but she and her girls remained the picture of perfection all day.  The boys, well the poor boys were in charcoal grey suits……. poor boys:(

Both bridal parties prepared at seperate residences at Goolwa Beach which was a nifty 10 minute drive away from both the ceremony and reception location at Currency Creek. This was fabulous because it meant that we didn’t lose much time due to travelling!

A friend of Carly’s created all of the lovely floral work for the wedding day and this was her very first lot of wedding work! Congratulations Bec, everything looked wonderful. You’ll be pleased to know that Vince was in charge of the boys flowers and very proud of you too:)(sorry Vince, it had to be said)

Meet Sarah! I unfortunately don’t have Sarah’s business name but she did the most AMAZING job on hair and makeup. Both hair and makeup stayed put throughout the stifling heat and words are just not adequate praise for this mean feat!

Stephen and Carly’s ceremony was held under one of the huge gum trees at Kingsbrook Estate which provided much relief from the searing afternoon Sun.  There really is no other like Kingsbrook Estate in South Australia. The food is delicious and the location itself is just so picturesque and so perfect for unique and sophisticated weddings. This place definitely isn’t a function centre and it’s one of the things that I adore about it. In addition, if you do get married here, you don’t need to go anywhere else for photographs! Hurrah!

Sash Events provided many of the style and hire items for the wedding day and a huge thank you to Nikki who arranged for some pomander balls to be sent down to Kingsbrook just in time for the ceremony!

Absolutely every aspect was covered with personalised fans and parasols provided to guest for relief from the sun and of course they were colour coordinated in ivory and latte tones.

Carly and Stephen’s grand and great grandparents played the German Accordions. As a tribute to them, two German Accordions were played and incorporated into the couples ceremony.

Bronwyn from Celebrants of Adelaide conducted the beautiful civil service. Bronwyn is one of my all time favourite celebrants and someone who I highly recommend. Bronwyn is also expecting her third little munchkin in just over a weeks time. Bronwyn, I hope you are resting up and enjoying the anticipation of bubs number 3!

Now did I mention that there were not one but two cakes for this wedding? No, didn’t think so. Well below is the cake which sat perfectly on the dessert and lolly buffet and then the images beneath this cake are of the 6 double tiered, surprise creation that Stephen made for Carly!

Carly and Stephen, my most heartfelt congratulations go to you both. You are both so wonderful in every way, I wish you nothing but every possible joy and happiness that you, as a couple and individuals deserve. It was my absolute pleasure working with you and I can’t believe how incredible your wedding day and the pair of you are!
Thank you so much for inviting me to capture your beautiful wedding day for you!

Much love
